I recently attended Timkat in Gondar, Ethiopia, where I met and conversed with the Patriarch, Abuna Paulos. I was also fortunate enough to meet the head of the EOTC seminary in Addis. It was a powerful experience, and I hope to go back again one day. I am in need of 1) English translations of the hymns sung accompanying the tabots, and at the night vigil; 2) a list of the appointed Scripture readings for the Timkat Liturgy and the Blessing of the Waters; and 3) an English translation of the rite of the Blessing of the Waters (I have a 1901 English translation of the Coptic Blessing of the Waters, but I don't know how closely that resembles the one that I witnessed in Gondar). | Comments: | Beautiful Icons. I write them, and have been studying mostly Russian, and Greek Icons, in order to find the true face of God. The Icons here show the litergical images a little different, but the spirit still comes thru strong. I've seen some Ethiopian christian art before, but this site has some very spiritual images, that I've never seen before. I am particually struck, by the way the Trinity is portrayed, as three old men with white beards. The Holy Spirit written as a three headed dove, is remarkable. I love that kind of image. Plus, the Last Supper Icon, shows such intensity of emotion. Thanks for the web site. Maybe the only thing that could have helped my own search, would be to give the dates when the Icons were written. Sometimes, it helps to know how the ancient masters of this art wrote their icons. Are there very old Icons from the early years left in Ethiopia? God bless. |

Productive suggestion has to be given some attention and I was expecting some change. Your effort to make the web site attractive is highly appreciated. I have only one suggestion though. It would be a great help not just to me but to the other visitors of your website if you would give a brief history of what each icon is showing. You can write it in a separate PDF file and attach it to the icon. Everytime someone clicks on the icon, he will get the story. I wouldn't know more than you but hope you will do something about it.
